he last transfer window came up
and closed after a flurry of activities by many clubs, those who had the
capacity to spend, spent it well on some
decent players, while some overpaid. Those who didn’t have the financial muscle
to compete with some of the big spenders settled for what their balance sheets
could carry.
Although that is not to say decent players were not signed by
these clubs, it only came at a bargain price. One would want to pause and ask a
very important question; what if a club that is popularly acclaimed as one of
the richest club in the world refuses to invest in its first team squad, what
are we suppose to say about it?
I wouldn’t want to rush into
conclusion because, the squad might have enough depth and see no reason why any
area of the team be improved upon. If a club should find itself in this
position, then I believe it will be an action borne with extravagances for it
to recruit more players to an already established squad, as we have seen with
some clubs over the years. So can we now say that a club like Manchester United
with all its financial attributes belongs to this category?
Recent matches the Red Devils
have played this season has revealed some lapses in the midfield area of the
team, owing to its lack of depth, too many chances have not been created so far
as evident in their last two matches (Chelsea fc and Liverpool fc). Michael Carrick
a very fine player with decent passes has not been able to show his creative
abilities in the Midfield as a result of a not-too-decent pairing with Tom
Cleverly (An energetic but uncoordinated player). Similarly, Manchester United
also seems to lack skillful and articulate wide players who sees no opponent as
an obstacle, thereby limiting their abilities to inflict damages on their
opponents at the far sides of the pitch.

anchester United lack of
creativity in the attack generally has been summed up by their failure to score
a single goal in their last two matches against a formidable team. Giving the
lack of transfer activity for the Red Devils this summer, would one be too
harsh to conclude that MANCHESTER UNITED COULD BE HEADING FOR A DECLINE? Only
time will tell.
